“MAMI”

In the 1950s, Mami moved from Puerto Rico to New York City to find work. She worked in a factory where bedding was made. Sometimes, Mami would bring home bobbins of thread, sewing needles, beddings and quilts. Most of these objects were “seconds” because they had glitches/flaws created during the manufacturing process. To me, these objects were all the more interesting because of their defects. They felt more personal…more human. I enjoy visually recycling these objects whose colors and textures resonate with me.

However, Im not looking to relive the memories. Instead…I am looking to create new ones.
